I thought I give it another try, using all my grey rods (only 30) to support half of the pentagons.
This is the best I could do:

The back (as you can see) is still a normal version using panels for support. When I tried to put the pentagon facing the camera at the bottom it became clear that the whole structure is not strong enough to support the weight...
Still you can already see how beautiful it would be...
